Problem with less compiler

When I try to use the following less syntax with Chirpy 2.0

@baseGray: #ddd;

.gradientbackground(@topcolor: darken(@baseGray,20%), @bottomcolor:#eee)
{
    behavior: url(PIE.htc);
    background:  linear-gradient(@topcolor, @bottomcolor); /*future CSS3 browsers*/
    background:  -moz-linear-gradient(@topcolor, @bottomcolor); /*gecko*/
    background:  -webkit-gradient(linear, center bottom,
				center top, from(@bottomcolor),to(@topcolor)); /*webkit*/
    -pie-background: linear-gradient(@topcolor, @bottomcolor); /*PIE*/
 }

what I'm getting is

.highlight {
  behavior: url(PIE.htc);
  background: linear-gradient(darken(#dddddd, 20%), #eeeeee);
  /*future CSS3 browsers*/

  background: -moz-linear-gradient(darken(#dddddd, 20%), #eeeeee);
  /*gecko*/

  background: -webkit-gradient(linear, center bottom, center top, from(#eeeeee), to(darken(#dddddd, 20%)));
  /*webkit*/

  -pie-background: linear-gradient(darken(#dddddd, 20%), #eeeeee);
  /*PIE*/

This is my first project using less and I'm really loving it.  So I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong, but I cannot see what it is.
